Hi, I’m a grandmother of six. And I’m doing this on purpose.
Six grandkids means six different ages, six sets of favorite snacks, and six very different answers to “How was your day?” (Mostly “fine.”)
Somewhere along the way, I realized loving them wasn’t the hard part. Staying in the middle of their lives was. Kids grow up fast, calendars fill up, families spread out, and if you’re not careful, Grandma turns into someone they’re told to call.
So I started doing it on purpose. Mail with something inside to do. Video calls with a plan. Better questions than “How was school?” Family stories told before they get lost. Some of it flopped, and a lot of it worked. This is where I write down what works.
Why “on purpose”?
The grandmas kids remember aren’t always the ones with the most time. They’re the ones who used the time they had on purpose.
